Stay In and 'Wine' Down This Weekend

There are a lot of good things to be said for staying in. You can chill out in your favorite comfortable clothes and relax. You can enjoy a handpicked selection of your favorite snacks and wines. Also, the money savings can be significant.  Why go out when you can have a wine night in? If you are looking for ideas for your wine night in--you have come to the right place. One of our favorite ideas for spending a night in is to have a gourmet pizza + wine night in. Invite some friends over for your night in and host your own pizza party but for adults. A gourmet pizza + fine wine party makes for a fun, no-fuss evening. No major chef skills are required. It also works perfectly for a date night in with your significant other. You simply need to plan ahead and use a little creativity. Not sure how to plan a gourmet pizza + fine wine night in? Here are the steps.

Decide on the Menu

Some ideas include salad, prosciutto, pizza and wine. For dessert, go with something light. A super light chocolate or ricotta mousse with berries would be perfect.

Choose Your Pizzas

There are tons of gourmet pizza recipes on the internet. One of our favorite sites for recipes is Epicurious. They have tons of great gourmet recipes. Some of our favorites include the Grilled Pizza with Pears, Fresh Pecorino, and Walnuts and the Pizza Bianca with Goat Cheese and Greens.

Pick out the Wines

The wine that you select for your pizza will depend upon what kind of pizza that you have. For a white pizza, choose a chardonnay. With its balanced acidity and stone fruit notes, The Sanctuary Chardonnay pairs perfectly with most white pizzas. If Hawaiian pizza is on the menu, try a riesling. The sweetness of the Riesling will complement the ham. We recommend the Jekel Riesling because of its clean acidity and fruity flavor.

Set the Table

Choose a simple white dinner table cloth. If you want to have guests, make each place setting complete with a personalized pizza of their choice. Pick up an assortment of freshly cut flowers for the table. Make a topping station off to the side where guests can add a topping of their choice.

A pizza + wine night in works well whether you want a night to yourself, with your significant other or with friends. Just customize each step according to your needs. For example, if it’s just you then you might want to make only one pizza. You can still pair it with several different types of wines and desserts to see which you like best. If you are planning this for a date night, add some romantic touches, like candles around the room.
